Doctor, doctor, won't you please prescribe me something?

Friday, 1 January 2010

Yep, happy new decade everybody. Here's to a brand new year where everything will go smoothly. Hopefully. Just realised that there's less than 4 days til school reopens and I am so not excited. I freaking hate school, not to mention that there will definitely be double or even triple the amount of stress. That's life.
Had quite a fruitful holiday. First of all, I finally learnt how to cycle. Yay.

It will take me years to learn how to do what the guy is doing in the picture. "Look, Ma, no hands!" But I did cycle round Sentosa so that's gotta be something.

Watched a total of 4 movies (not all at once), which are:

2012

Oooh~ Yep, we were warned. I have to confess, I did get paranoid after watching the movie 'cos I really didn't want what was shown in the movie to really happen. Even though there are some people I wouldn't mind being seen wiped off the Earth. But I guess my craziness stopped after I read Dan Brown's The Lost Symbol where it's revealed that the Greek meaning of "apocalypse" really means "to reveal". Take this link: "The Greek word ἀποκάλυψις, sometimes rendered directly from the Greek as apocalypse, is usually translated in English as revelation, since the literal meaning of the Greek word is "the act of revealing or unveiling")." So I guess something will be revealed come December 2012, hopefully not our skeletons or the Earth's crust or some fiery beast coming to take over the universe.

Planet 51

It wasn't as good as I expected, to be serious. Maybe the jokes were too childish for me. LOL.

Avatar

To be honest, I disliked it. The storyline is simple, too simple in fact and I have a hunch James Cameron used the 3D special effects and all to make up for the lack of substance. I didn't get all the hoo-ha about the effects surrounding it as well, 'cos like seriously, what's the big deal? Didn't we go through this with Shark Boy and Lava Girl?

Yes, the boy is a younger Taylor Lautner. I have no idea who the girl is.

And lastly, Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel!

Theodore looks weird. Haha, it was funny. I especially loved the voice of Theodore and his female counterpart (What's her name...?). The rest, not so much. Oh, and I liked their versions of Hot N Cold and SINGLE LADIES~~. Storyline-wise, not much substance, I have to say. Lol.

Went to the Bodyworlds Cycle of Life exhibition at the Science Centre yesterday. The Science Quiz people should have went way before the holidays. People like Jonah, Jean, Jiao Bin, maybe Joey, etc etc. I didn't go 'cos  I was trying to be loyal to my English Supplementary Class. Lol.

I also went to the one held a few years back in 2003 or 2004 but it was held in Expo and most of the plastinates (what the bodies are called) were not enclosed in glass containers like they were in the Science Centre. And the one in Expo didn't have a theme, it was just plain displaying, while this time there's the Cycle of Life thingy~. Oh, and this time they have a horse, giraffe, reindeer, a squid and an octopus on display. Cool to the max. My father, being a chinese physician and all, took the chance to explain to me all the different body parts and stuff, so yeah. Oh, and there's an MRI scan of a couple having sex.
The exhibition in Expo didn't have such a wide variety, but they did give us free posters.
By the way, no photos from yesterday to upload 'cos taking of pictures were strictly forbidden in the exhibition to "maintain the integrity of the exhibits" or something like that. I did toy with the idea of breaking that rule, but I suppose I was too fascinated by the plastinates. FYI, they are called that 'cos the dead bodies were actually preserved and had some substance pumped into them to make them hard and so that they won't decay. Gunther von Hagens (the guy behind the Bodyworlds thingies) is a genius. I strongly suggest you guys go and catch it, once in a lifetime experience, y'all won't regret it, trust me.

Most probably will be going to some Chinese restaurant in the evening for dinner. All the best for the coming new year, guys.
